White leather upholstery. Model created in 1956. Armchairs.
From the outset, there have been two official editions of the Lounge Chair: an American version and a European one. The first has been manufactured by Herman Miller from 1956 to the present day. The second was produced by Mobilier International under license from Herman Miller, and later by Vitra. The shape of the bases distinguishes them, along with a few manufacturing details.
Derived from a prototype presented at the “Organic Design in Home Furnishings” competition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1940, the Lounge Chair was designed and produced in 1956 for the birthday of film director Billy Wilder.
